August 20, 2014 ~ IT Solution

The problem that I chose was related to printers. Well now a days, not everyone owns a computer at home. Especially those who lack budget to buy one. And of course when you buy a printer, its not only the printer that you have to buy. You'll also need to purchase paper and ink.

So I came up with a solution that could be very helpful with students especially those who are in public schools.

My solution is combining an ordinary PC + printer + coin slot...

I had this idea since I saw the piso net :)

So with this device you won't have to fall in line in over priced computer shops, you won't have to consider buying a printer at home, etc.

For the pc it can only be an ordinary one and will only function as a viewer for documents and files. You won't be able to edit your files because if you did, the purpose of this device would be useless.

And by the time your printing the file, you won't get your paper once you drop the amount needed in the coin slot.

So, for the maintenance of this device, why won't we have someone from the school, have it checked from time to time or at least at the end of the day.

These are the only two slides I had during the presentation... :))

When we were talking about cyber laws... Napster was suddenly mentioned. when Napster was mentioned, I remembered the movie I watched which was The Social Network. The movie was about Facebook but then also showed one of the founders of Napster, Sean Parker. Sean Parker was also the founding president of Facebook. While I was searching for the movie again, I saw an article saying that Sean Parker said "The Social Network is FICTION". I thought that Napster shut down years ago, well I was wrong. Napster can still be downloaded until now. And Sean Parker is now one of the board members of Spotify. For Sean Parker, he thinks that Spotify can take over iTunes within two years. Spotify and Napster also plans on merging into one with a Spotify like app but with videos.

Whenever I go to some torrent website, I always encounter pop-ups that would open into another tab on my browser. that sucks. seriously.

This is the pop up I always get. The MacKeeper. I know that this is not useful and I also don't trust this kind of apps. I would rather download or buy an app on the app store rather than download a 3rd party and an untrusted app.
Plus there are times that it tells that its under apple even though its not.

And also, I always see fake "download" buttons. When you click on those buttons, you'll end up downloading a different app instead of the file.

As you can see, there are multiple "download" buttons.

This is the real download button

And this is the fake download button that would lead you into downloading a different thing.

Back in my grade school days, our teacher said that you really can't permanently delete your files on your hard drive. He said that if you plan on selling your computers, you have to destroy your hard drive. He even showed us a video of a man destroying his hard drive (the man was throwing the hard drive on a cement floor).

I also usually receive those spam messages. Usually I get those messages as if I was "subscribed to a newsletter" or something. My junk folder is already starting to fill up.
I also receive different links to my twitter account. And I am very caution in opening this links because once I open it, random tweets would appear on my timeline and I would send different messages to my followers (messages that I have no idea what it is and that I have no idea I sent those kind of messages). The e-mails I usually get would trick you into getting a lot of followers. But then you won't get any.

I've always dreamed of learning how to hack. I've always  thought that jailbreaking is a good start to learn hacking. But then I knew that it's not just softwares that can hack. You'll have to be brilliant enough to guess the person's password. And i had a brilliant thought that you can out smart a machine / software by changing your password from time to time.

There was a time where I had a transition of passwords. Where I realized that my passwords are too childish and easy to guess. So I had to change them and there are some websites that require at least one capital letter and etc. Because of those things, I forget my passwords all the time. Good thing there's the password recovery concept.

Law & Order

1.    Cellphone – FACT
Everyone currently uses Cellphones today. In fact, cellphones are now a necessity to everyone. Before, cellphones function as a portable telephone then came in texting and now, we have this so called smartphones. Smartphones can do a lot more and are like portable or small computers. It is more advance and is more capable of doing different tasks. It can also now connect to the Internet.

2.    Desktop Computer – FACT
In the movie, the use these computers to hack into a system or to access files. All the actions or processes they did really exist.

3.    Credit Cards – FACT
A small plastic that a person is carried almost anywhere and can be used as a system of payment.

4.    Password Protected – FACT
To be able to protect our files, people add passwords to their files. Only people who knows the password can access the file.  Not all files can be password protected.

5.    Breaking in someone else’s password – FACT
This is basically also hacking. There are plenty of ways to invade in someone’s privacy. Nowadays, it is not that hard to hack into someone’s account. As we get comfortable with advances, we also find out ways on how to protect our privacy. Like installing different soft wares to protect our computers. There also anti-virus applications that can detect when there’s a bug in our e-mail or in websites we open. Since those bugs can interrogate our computers. Hackers can easily obtain data or information faster because almost all people have access to the Internet.

6.    Pulling out a data before it was changed/ edited – FALSE
Once data is saved then closed, you can no longer undo all the changes you’ve made. Unless you’ve made a back up of the old file or you saved the new file with a different file name.

7.    Downloading porn from the internet- FACT
It’s not just porn that you can download. You can also download different videos from the Internet using a converter. There are a lot of these freeware and it is also available online. By just looking it up on Google, you can see a lot of converters. And some videos have a direct download.

8.    Deleting still leaves a copy on the hard drive- FACT
Emptying your recycle bin isn’t enough. The file still leaves a little on the hard drive. The actual bits are still there. Even when you format the hard drive, the files are still there for those who knows how to read them.

9.    Access to a computer and altering a file- FACT
In USA, they have this so called Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). With this act you can go to jail once you’ve been proven that you’re accessing someone else’s computer without authorization and also accessing their files.

10.  Sending a worm, attached in an email and being able to access someone’s computer – FACT
RATs or Remote Access Trapdoor is a worm that once open can gain access to your computer. It can get all the files you have. Once it is attached to the computer it can execute whatever the hacker commands to do.

11. Survivor chat room- FALSE
This chat room doesn’t exist. In fact, if you Google this, you’ll find rape survivors stories.

12. Access nation or selling information – FALSE
The selling of information is different as what it was said on the episode. But there are so called Infopreneur. They can be a person or a bot, and they gather and sell data. They sell a different data on the Internet.

13. Spyware – FACT
This is a type of software that can gather information without the person knowing. They can be Trojans, adware etc. It doesn’t only look into the person’s computer but this can also collect personal information like user logins and bank or credit account information.

14.  Face Recognition Software – FACT
Apple and Facebook have this kind of software. In Apple’s iPhoto, your photos can be sorted by face or whoever’s in the photo. Facebook uses DeepFace and other big companies also has this kind of software like Google and Sony. Google uses Picasa and Sony uses Pictrue Motion Browser. This software is a computer application that can detect, identify or verify a person from a digital image.

15. National ID Cards – FACT
According to Margaret Rouse, a national identity card is a portable document. It is a plasticized card with digitally embedded information that someone is required and encouraged to carry as a means of confirming their identity.

We attended two seminars today, first is the "ASES: Summit Manila" and second is the "It's a TechnoBusiness!"

For the fist seminar, it kinda started a little late like almost 30 mins. late because some of the participants came in late. And I also noticed that some of the team's used technology to help different communities and the economy.

Bam Aquino was present in the event. He gave a brief speech about social enterprise. He is also one of the judges in the event and btw, he gave really good comments on the team's that presented their work.

There were eight groups that presented their solutions. I actually think that some of those solutions exist already but they were able to modify it and some with the use of internet since a lot of people are on the internet already and most people spend their time using it.

I'm actually amazed and impressed by the teams since they're not purely Filipino, they still care and help our country. They are very inspiring for us Filipinos. We should also do our part in helping our fellow citizens. If the foreigners can and so do we.

Intro to Bam Aquino

This was in the elevator line :)

Now, for the second seminar, It's a TechnoBusiness! , this seminar was kinda confusing since there was words that are so unfamiliar to me. And the 1st speaker was showing a lot of flowcharts. But then for the first speaker in this event, he really encouraged me to continue on my course, since I had thoughts on shifting to a different course. I'm really surprised on the starting salary a fresh graduate can make on their company.

For the second speaker, Julius Gorospe, the director of R&D in Samsung, really gave a good talk. He also mentioned that most of the people they get are from UP and DLSU (I'm in good hands! haha). And also Lasallians are not only geeks but they are also good in talking and communicating with people. Another is that its hard to succeed with our course with a little twist of business. (really thankful that I'm an INSYS student~ IT + BUSINESS? )
I'm also surprised that he uses an iPhone and he said that keep your enemies closer.

Glad I attended both seminars :)

I totally agree with the younger vs older generation in coping up with computers...

In our home you can really see the difference of these two generations between me and my mom. My mom is not really that old though. I grew up being exposed to different gadgets/computers because of my uncle. He always has this new gadget that comes out or that becomes popular. That's why sometimes we get showered by these blessings as well. When we had our first iPad, we all got excited except for my mom. We tried teaching her how to use it but then she refuses to learn since she can't stand being in front of computer. Her eyes hurt and I don't know why :)) Then came the iPhone, I told my mom that the time will come that we would be migrating to US and that she has to learn how to use smartphones but then again she refuses because she doesn't get how to operate it no natter how many times we show her how.

I also agree that the older generation is harder to teach, I've experienced this when it comes to teaching my mom and my younger sister. My younger sister, easily understood what I tell her too. There are times that she comes to me thru Facebook for help then I just give her instructions and she gets it easily. Unlike when it comes to my mom, I had to demonstrate it for a couple of times for her to get what I was saying.

My mom was able to learn how to use Google and Facebook. Well, she actually needs to learn those two for her business. Like for recipes :)

FACEBOOK vs GOOGLE PLUS

Really never thought that Facebook would ever had a competitor. For me, Facebook is like a complete set of everything I need. I can send files to my classmates. I can chat with my friends. I can upload pictures and videos. Now, I'm actually wondering if google plus has all of these features or do they have more to offer?

With the help of Facebook (& Wikipedia-- every students necessity HAHA), I was able to graduate. LOL. kinda serious about this. Well, probably without it, I won't be able to contact my classmates and ask for help. We won't probably survive group works as well. I won't also be able to help them either. During my 3rd year days, I would make group chats in Facebook and Viber then add all my friends and classmates then I would tutor them for free. I gave them notes, I test what they've learned, I also gave them exercises to answer. After every exam, I get free hugs from them (I like hugs!), and that simple hug makes me smile and turn my good vibes on.

After getting the results of our midterm exams, we talked about Google being Microsoft's next BIG COMPETITOR.

First, even if Microsoft included Internet Explorer with the package, they are still defeated by Google's browser Google Chrome.
I had an experience with Internet Explorer before that I can't see my webpage anymore because I was full of tool bars :)

Second, the Microsoft Office, though this isn't packaged with Microsoft or Windows, they are still and almost defeated by Google because Google has an online kind of this. It may not be complete but it has all the essential things that are needed. Google Docs, Google Presentation and Google Spreadsheet are a really  big help to almost everyone especially to us students. It's much easier to interact with groupmates with these apps available online.

Third, Google bought Android, and almost all of us knows that android is better than Windows Phone/ Windows 8.  What would happen to Microsoft if Google released their own Operating System? Would that be the end of Microsoft?

I actually got more interested in my course, besides the fact that I can earn a lot of money, I can also be just be the one who commands people. I can ask someone to just type in the code I need. But to be that person, I have to be a good programmer myself. The system analyst is the one who thinks of a solution.

Our prof also mentioned about the teaching in other colleges/university. While he was talking about that, I wondered what subjects they are taking and will be taking. Then in comparison, which is better. And I also wondered what they are learning and how are they after they graduate. That got me really thinking. :)

I saw this earlier (see link below) ... and looking at the numbers made me go "woah, that's a really big amount". Now, I'm really hoping to be a good programmer! Study! Study! Study! :) *fingers crossed*.

During our recent discussion, we talked about the last phase of programming-- TRANSLATE, TEST AND DEBUG or COMPILE, TEST AND DEBUG. Debug also means removing errors and sir mentioned about the word debug came from a situation where in they have to remove a real bug from the computer. I've read this article before and I actually believed it because my computer teacher in high school also mentioned this to us. Now, I'm wondering if he was messing with us or was it really true.

Debugging's history... They found a moth inside the huge computers (computers were huge back then).

Re-read the article again... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debugging#Origin :)

We talked about the different phases of Programming and our prof also mentioned  2 kinds of error. One of it is the Syntax Error and that really caught my attention.

I usually encounter the word Syntax Error in my scientific calculator. At first, I don't know what it means but then our prof said it means that its an error in grammar. So now, I get it, no wonder when the term syntax error appears in my scientific calculator, it also points out what's wrong with my equation.

In our recent class, we talked about programming. And then our prof said that there's 3 things to remember in programming. And he also mentioned different languages in programming. Then suddenly, I remembered that every time we have our INTRPRG class, i'm seriously clueless of what we're doing. I really have no background when it comes to programming but then I really want to become a good programmer in the future.
ME IN INTRPRG :)

I was able to encounter C++  in high school but then its like I didn't learn anything since the teacher just kept on talking in front or she just types and types in front of the computer without explaining what she's doing. So in general, I still think that I have no background in programming.

I really wish I good be a good programmer in the future. *fingers crossed* :)

June 18, 2014

We recently talked about the different careers we could possibly have in the future as a programmer. We also classified the difference of IS, IT and CS. When our prof said that InSys students usually deals with people, I said to myself that maybe I'm more applicable to this course than being a ComSci student. Before, I planned on shifting from IS to CS.

I actually also believe that being a programmer isn't an 8 hour job. It is more than that. It's almost a 24/7 job.

I also like that programmers has a really high salary and that depends on how good you are. I really hope that I get to be a good programmer so that I can be rich and be able to support and help my family.

I actually thought that IT students would end up fixing computers... and I WAS SO WRONG. I would actually end up doing different softwares. Which is one of the things i've always dreamt about. I also want to make my own applications but then of course, one at a time.

I'm really glad this topic was opened to us. Now I realised what I'll end up with, I really wanna do good in my academics and be a good programmer.

Who knows, someday one of us could be the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates? :)

What if computers had a mind of its own?

I think its better that we're the ones controlling computers. If they had a mind of their own, they could take over our world.

I actually find programming really cool. I think its like making your own slave or someone to do the work for you. One of the best examples is the calculator. It is programmed to solve our math problems. There are also calculators that do the graphing for you.
There are also computers designed for health purposes. The ones we see in hospitals are computers but those are not like the ones we have at home. They are programmed for a different purpose. I just recently watched the movie The Fault in Our Stars. In the movie, they showed Hazel being in the ICU. In the ICU, you are surrounded by different machines or computers. I find those kind of computers creepy. But at the same time, I find it amazing as well because it is being able to track your life line.

If computers had a mind of its own, it would probably not be good. WORLD DOMINATION! Like in the movie Tron (1982), they captured the humans and trap them into a virtual world.

We recently talked about output and input devices. While talking about these different gadgets, the things that came to my mind was "I had one of this". I remembered going through those different printers. From the noisy and slow printing process and now to the fast and silent printing process. And I even had speakers that were huge and didn't even had that great quality. Now a days, we're using speakers that are small and portable but really has a good quality with sound. Our Prof also mentioned that we before the game controllers even vibrates, and yeah, I experienced that too.

The topic today was actually familiar to me since I reached that time where those things exist. But then, re-studying it again is nice because it reminds us of the past and you learn more because you gain additional information and fun facts! :)

I am actually fascinated how I could still remember those things. And a few weeks before classes started, I found our old diskettes. Some of them aren't even used. I also remembered that during our elementary days, the teacher would still ask us to buy diskettes and I get to choose from different colors. I always thought that those diskettes has a lot of memory but then I was wrong but during those years, those diskettes really had a big memory enough to store our files.

I've always thought that INTRICT class in an english class but now I figured out its more about technology. I'm very fascinated about the different terminologies I've learned since some of them aren't that familiar. I also learned what to identify when buying the right computer. I don't have to read all the things written on the specifications. Next time, I know what to do or what to identify when buying a computer.
